I have been flying the Esky Big Lama every sense they came out. As with (I think all) of the Esky Coaxial Heli’s they have the same problem, the rotor blades are too fragile. I have purchased and used all of the different blades that I have found for the Big Lama. Here are the results as I see them. The stock blades are by far the most ridged but are also the most fragile. They are in the middle as far as weight goes. The Xtreme blades are far tougher and last much longer. I made a list of my findings along with the weights. For the flex measurements I clamped the blades into my vise upside down and added the same weight to all of the blades and measured how much sag each blade had.
Esky: ¼” sag Weights: .260 oz.
Xtreme (white): 1 ¾” sag Weights: .238 oz.
Xtreme (black carbon): 1 ½” sag Weights: .264 oz.
Xtreme (white/blue): 3/8” sag Weights: .285 oz.
3DPRO (Durablade): 5/8” sag Weights: .189 oz.
Here is my personal conclusion of my not so scientific comparison. The white Xtreme blades while being very tough aren’t worth the effort to put them on. The black carbon blades aren’t much better as far as flex and they weigh quite a bit more than the other blades except one. The white/blue Xtremes are the stiffest but also the heaviest. I haven’t used the white/blue Xtreme blades very much as I liked them the least as far as performance goes. To be fair I only used them with the aluminum blades holders and I wasn’t impressed with either. BTW! I use a extended inner shaft with stock blade holders. I have just received my 3DPRO Durablades and I like them far better than any of the Xtremes and they are the lightest blade out there. I haven’t had any mishaps yet so I really don’t know tough they are. The way they feel I think they will be better than stock but not as tough as the Xtremes. I feel that the stock blades are the best blade for the money. Once you learn to fly better and have less mishaps they will last a long time. For now though I’m going to use the 3DPRO blades as they perform very well and the cost is lower than the Xtremes.
